Ringworm is a fungal infection that develops on the outer most layer of the skin. It is not an uncommon condition and can affect both men and women equally. Ringworm appears as a ring or circular shaped rash that is red in color.

Ringworms can appear on any part of the body; however, ringworms are subdivided into 4 major categories based on the area they affect.
  • Tiena Corporis: is a ringworm infection that develops on any part of the body. The most common areas affected by this condition are the arms, stomach, back and neck.

  • Tinea Pedis: is also known as athlete’s foot and develops in between the joints of the toes. In some cases it may also develop behind the ankles.
  • Tinea Cruris: is also commonly known as jock itch. People experiencing this condition develop rash around their buttocks, inner thighs and around the genitals.
  • Tinea Capitis: affects the scalp of an individual. This condition is most often noticed among children. It is also known as ringworm of the scalp and leaves the patient with bald patches on the head.

Ringworm is a very contagious condition that can spread from one person to another. It can also be contracted by using the objects handled by an infected person. These parasites can also be contracted from infected animals and contaminated soil. Therefore, a person experiencing ringworms should be carful of his own health, as well as of the health of those around him/her. In order to treat ringworms using home remedies:
  • You can use a paste made from mustard seeds. Mustard seeds contain fatty acids and erucic acid apart from niacin (vitamin B3) that help in restricting the growth of ringworms.
  • Raw papaya is also very useful in getting rid of ringworms. You can rub a slice of raw papaya over the affected area in order to get effective relief. You can use this remedy twice everyday.
  • Turmeric is highly revered for its skin healing properties. Turmeric contains effective anti bacterial and anti fungal properties. Apply a paste made of turmeric and rose water for effective results. Turmeric will help in getting rid of the ringworm, while rose water will soothe your inflamed skin.
  • In order to overcome the itchy feeling brought about by ringworms, you may apply coconut oil over the affected area of your skin.

Please visit a doctor if your condition persists for more than one week. Your doctor may prescribe antibiotics in order to get rid of your condition depending on its severity.
