home remedy for getting rid of acne scars

Acne scars can be extremely unsightly but in many cases they are just temporary. In most cases, the discoloration vanishes in about a month or so and may not leave any trace whatsoever. However, if you have scratched the area or picked or squeezed your pimple, you may have a deeper scar that may be pitted as well as discolored. It is best to treat acne scars as early as possible to speed up healing and reduce scarring.

In order to get rid of the acne scars you will have to take care of your skin on a daily basis. You will also have to pay special attention to the scarred areas. There are several home remedies for getting rid of acne scars. If you make just two small adjustments to your regular skin care program, you can effectively treat your acne scars.

Lemon juice is a natural bleach and helps to reduce the intensity of the discoloration. However, since it is acidic in nature it is not advisable to apply it to areas that are sore or raw. Applying lemon juice to an area that is raw can cause the broken skin to react to the acid and can cause further darkening. It is therefore important that you rinse your face well with slightly warm water and then apply the freshly pressed lemon juice to the scars. It is best to apply the juice directly to the scars with your finger as cotton fibers can sometimes be a little abrasive on the scarred skin which is very delicate. Lemon juice reacts when exposed to direct sunlight and can cause discoloration. Make sure that you always rinse your face well before you leave the house as even a residual amount of the juice can cause a reaction.

A facial scrub will help to get rid of dead skin cells and the upper layers of scarred tissue. It is not advisable to use a cosmetic scrub as most of these have chemicals and perfumes that can irritate the scarred tissue. You can make your own homemade scrub for acne scars out of honey, sugar, olive oil and carrot juice. Mix about one spoon each of carrot juice and honey and add sugar to the solution. Allow the mixture to stand for about 2 minutes and then stir it around for another minutes or so. The sugar crystals in the mixture will start to dissolve and the stirring will ensure that the corners of the crystals dissolve and become rounded. It is important to not skip this step as un-dissolved sugar can be abrasive. Add a drop or two of olive oil to the mixture and apply it to your face. Leave it on for about 30 seconds and then slowly massage your skin with this paste. Rinse your face with lukewarm water. Carrot juice is rich in vitamin A which is essential for healing scarred tissue while honey is has many essential amino acids. Olive oil is rich in fatty acids and helps to speed up the healing of scared tissue. Use this face scrub at least once every two days to keep your skin clean and free of all surface dirt and oil.
