Take about 1000 IU of Vitamin D in the form of D3. Often times depression is caused by not enouch exposure to the sun depleting your stores of Vitamin D. For immediate relief I like the herb winter cherry. It is very calming and soothing and helps with both depression and anxiety. Something I have used to break out of a depression is to sing happy or silly or uplifting songs. Just belt it out and don't worry about how you sound. natural-cure-remedy.com

Nervous exhaustion If you have a nervous breakdown accompanied by increased mental and physical fatigue, absent-mindedness, headaches and insomnia, you can try these very safe natural home remedies.
Water therapy: Try these relaxing baths that will help with irritability and insomnia: Pine bath: Boil 1 pound of pine needles or branches of a pine tree in 2 gallons of water for 15-20 min on low heat. Then filter it and pour in a full bath. Sea salt bath: dissolve 1/2-1 pound of sea salt in a full bath. Herbal baths (with valerian roots or mint): Take 1/2 pound of herbs and boil them in 2 gallons of water. Then filter it and pour in a full bath. Aromatherapy baths: mix 2 drops of chamomile oil, 3 drops of lavender oil and 3 drops of geranium oil. Dissolve the mix in 3 oz of yogurt and pour in a full bath. Take a bath for 15 min for 10-12 days. Take a bath with 10 drops of lavender or marjoram oil for 15-20 min. Iodine bath: Add 20 drops of iodine to a full bath. If you have weakness and apathy, take a shower where you alternate hot (temperature - 38C for 3 min) and cold water (temperature - 30C for 1 min). Aromatherapy: For relaxation inhale scents of citrus, lavender, geranium, cyclamen, birch, valerian and melissa. For stimulation inhale scents of wormwood, cloves, laurel, mountain ash (rowanberries), poplar and camphor. Use an aroma diffuser or simply put a bouquet of these herbs in a vase in the center of your room. Apitherapy: Mix 1 table spoon of honey with 1 glass of warm milk. Drink it before you go to bed. It will help with insomnia.
