Hair is connected to a person's vanity and beauty. And if you are one of the unfortunate person stricken with the hair pulling disorder also known as trichotillomania, this condition can cause a lot of emotional anguish.

Trichotillomania is a mental ailment which tempts you to pull out strands of your own hair, resulting is bald patches on the scalp and other hairy areas of the body such as body hair, eyebrows and eyelashes. Trichotillomania is a kind of compulsive behavior and its reasons are not clearly understood, but currently it is viewed as a medical illness.

Treatment for trichotillomania:
Treating trichotillomania may require psychotherapy and medications. You maybe prescribed behavioral therapy along with medications.

Psychotherapy: It helps you monitor your pulling habits, makes you aware of pulling and helps you reverse the pulling habit. Once you become aware of your pulling habit, you can educate yourself and get involved in other skills and behaviors.

Medications: Medications such as anti-depressants are given to the individual afflicted with this ailment. While medications will help some for a short period of time, symptoms may come back when the medications is stopped unless behavioral therapy is integrated along with the treatment. Medications will help to repress any obsessive-compulsive symptoms that an individual may be undergoing.

As such there are no home remedies for trichotillomania, its requires mind management and will power. It is difficult to suppress the urge to pull. You can choose to get involved in crafts to keep you busy. Style your hair in a ponytail, or shorten the length of your hair. Involve your family to make you aware of your pulling actions.
