Tonsillitis is a medical condition in which the tonsils found in your throat are inflamed and become red and painful. This usually occurs in accompaniment of a cold, sore throat, cough, fever, headache and body ache. There is usually difficulty in swallowing when the tonsillar lymph glands get swollen and tender.
Tonsillitis is caused by the presence of toxins in the body which have not been flushed out from the kidneys, bowels and skin or due to some other viral infection. While some kind of throat infections can be caused by oral sex and transfer of virus by way of genital fluids, there is no connection between sexual arousal and inflammation of the tonsils. If you have a chronic condition of tonsillitis you can consult a doctor for removal of the tonsil glands or resort to one of the following home remedies to treat the problem.
A hot water gargle with some salt is beneficial for tonsillitis, providing relief from the pain and soreness of the throat. You can also simmer 2 tbsp of fenugreek seeds in ½ l of water, cool it and use it to gargle several times a day. Sipping on 1 glass of warm water with the juice of 1 lemon, 4 tsp of honey and a pinch of salt throughout the day is beneficial for tonsillitis. This will provide relief from the itchy pain at the back of the throat and ease difficulties in swallowing. The lemon and honey will treat the infection thus getting rid of the inflammation of the tonsil glands. Alternately you can sip on an infusion prepared with freshly grated ginger and honey, or any herbal tea such as chamomile, mint or ginger to provide a soothing relief to the sore throat and pain caused by the inflamed tonsil glands. A glass of warm milk with 1 tsp of turmeric powder and a pinch of pepper powder is recommended for throat infections and tonsillitis. Incase of a chronic tonsillitis condition, you should avoid spicy and fried foods as well as sour foods such as yoghurt and buttermilk which can irritate the tonsils and aggravate the pain and inflammation. Instead you should focus on consuming plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables and adequate liquid in the form of water of fresh fruit juices. Carrot, beet and cucumber juice taken either individually or mixed in the proportion of 1:1:1 is beneficial if consumed daily since it is rich in Vitamins which help to fight the infection and improve the body’s resistance.
