Glycerin is one of the by-products of soap making technique. It is a humectant that absorbs moisture. Glycerin is a sweet and colorless fluid. It is used in making nitroglycerin, which is an explosive. Clear see through soaps contain glycerin. Higher glycerin content in the soap determines the hygroscopic quality of water. The impure chemical product is referred to as glycerin. Glycerin is used widely in fruit conservation, for lubrication, cake and candy making, lotion base, printing inks and for prevention of freezing in hydraulic press. It is a sugar alcohol of low toxicity levels. It is used in combination with pure and refined product, glycerol. It is used as a thickener, emollient, thickener, stabilizer, bodying agent and as a dispersing medium. Hand made soaps comprise of glycerin that keeps the skin moisturized and soft.
