Information on red vulva and pain while urinating

Vulvitis, inflammation of the vulva can be a symptom for various disease conditions like injuries, herpes, virginities, external irritants, poor hygiene, poor nutrition or stress. Other factors which can cause red vulva include oral sex, bacterial or fungal infection, wearing the wet swimming suit for long hours, allergic reactions to certain products like soap, sanitary napkins, scented tissues, powders, deodorants, or tropical vaginal medications. Home remedies and treatment for a red vulva would largely depend on the cause.

However remember the following points to ease your condition -

  1. Wear soft, cotton comfortable panties and avoid scratching the vulva.
  2. Maintain optimum personal hygiene, keep the genital area clean and dry. Avoid any products like soaps, deodorants or perfumes which cause problems.
  3. Dip a cotton cloth in yoghurt or plain yoghurt and apply it on the vulva. This will help to reduce the redness and pain near the vulva.
  4. Avoid having sex till the redness is gone.
  5. Drink lots of fluids to dilute the urine. Concentrated dark urine might be a cause for pain when you urinate. If your redness and pain does not respond to any home remedies for 3 days then visit a specialist for exact diagnosis and treatment.
