A burning sensation on the tongue results in burning tongue. It can also be referred as glossodynia or glossopyrosis. If there is burning sensation on the lips, cheeks, mouth then it is called burning mouth syndrome. This occurs due to yeast infections, medications, deficiency of B complex vitamins, bad oral health, and endocrine imbalance.
Ways of reducing burning tongue problem are:-
- Chew a sugar free gum.
- Use baking soda instead of normal toothpaste.
- Avoid spicy or hot foods that can irritate the tongue.
- For temporary relief, place ice cube on the tongue.
- Apply glycerin on the tongue to soothe down the pain.
- Consume more of iron rich and B complex vitamin rich foods like green leafy vegetable, whole grains, pulses as a deficiency of this micronutrient can lead to burning of tongue.
