can i take a bath during tonsillitis?

There is absolutely no problem in bathing during a tonsilitis attack. In fact a hot compress or the steam inhaled during a bath can definitely sooth an inflamed throat

Tonsillitis or acute sore throat is an acute infection of the tonsils located in the throat. The main symptoms of a sore throat can be persistent cough, radiating pain while swallowing, fever and body ache. Some patients can have repeated attacks of tonsillitis in a year requiring removal of the tonsils. But the usual course of treatment involves an analgesic to relieve pain, antibiotics to stem the infection and palliative measures to soothe an irritated throat.

Alternative remedies for tonsilitis:

  • You can also try alternative remedies as well like,
  • Warm salt water gargles three times a day.
  • Gargling with lemon juice three times a day.
  • You can also try a fenugreek mouthwash which is really effective. Boil two tsp.of fenugreek seeds in one liter water and use as a gargle everyday.
  • You can also try soaking in a hot Epsom salt bath everyday to relieve the pain.

Most sore throat subside with the proper care in about three days to a week. Eat a healthy balanced diet to maintain health and you’ll be good as new in a few days.
