Food poisoning is another common condition that can be caused because of a little carelessness. Food poisoning can occur anywhere and can afflict anyone. It usually happens when you eat food that is not hygienically prepared or is not cooked properly.
Food poisoning is usually caused due to microbes that grow on the food or are present in it. You are less likely to get food poisoning from fresh fruits and vegetables as compared to animal products. To prevent food poisoning, here’s what you can do:
- Cleanliness is of utmost importance when you want to negate all possibilities of contracting food poisoning. When preparing food, ensure that your hands and utensils that are used are clean. Improper hygiene is one of the leading causes of food poisoning.
- Proper storage of food is essential to ensure that you are not subject to food poisoning. If you are storing meats in the freezer, ensure that the proper temperature is always maintained. Nothing attracts bacteria more than stale meat products.
- Cooking your food properly is another way of ensuring that any harmful bacteria are killed.
The symptoms of food poisoning are quite similar to those of flu. You may experience diarrhea, vomiting, dehydration and even fever While it is necessary for you to visit a doctor if you have a case of food poisoning, you may try some home remedies to treat your condition.
- When you have food poisoning, it is important to cleanse the digestive system completely so that not even a trace of the harmful bacteria or fungi that you have ingested remains. If you are vomiting, it is good sign because your body is naturally eliminating harmful toxins or bacteria. However, when you are vomiting, keep drinking enough liquids to keep yourself well hydrated, as loss of fluids is the biggest theat. Energy drinks or glucose are ideal. You may also drink oral rehydration salts mixed with water.
- To restore some of the important nutrients that you have lost, make a concoction of fruit juice, corn syrup, or honey, whichever is available, and add a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix the solution thoroughly and drink this. This will restore your body’s electrolyte balance and help flush out toxins from the body.
- Prepare an herbal tea from the leaves of mint and add to that some blackberry, raspberry and a few drops of chamomile essential oil. This will help relax and soothe your stomach while ridding you of any cramps that you may be experiencing. You may drink this twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening.

Natural Cure for Food Poison
In most cases, during a normal bout of food poisoning the symptoms usually go away by themselves in a day or two. But the niggling discomfort may remain for a while and to get rid of this it is necessary that you drink up as much water as you can. Since there is a buildup of toxins in the digestive tract these should be flushed out with as much as possible. Tank up on water and fluids during the day, taking small slow sips at a time. Do not try to drink up at once, as it may induce vomiting. Your stomach is still in a delicate state and small sips will help in settling down the intestinal tract.
The bacteria that is responsible for inflaming the intestinal tract causes a good amount of fluid loss. This happens during diarrhea and dysentery that usually accompanies stomach poisoning symptoms. Hence to stay from being dehydrated you would need to replace the lost fluids in the body. You can also supplement your diet with plenty of clear soups, without too much additives, clear juices such as apple juice, plain clear broth and bouillon. Soft drinks are not recommended due to the presence of soda and high sugar. Carbonated drinks are known to further worsen the stomach condition and cause increased irritation.
