Decreased Levels of White Blood Cells

White blood cells are phagocytes, which help in fighting off infection and avoid the entry of foreign matter into the body. Insufficient information regarding the white blood cell count is available. The normal levels range from 4,500 to 10,000 cells per microliter of blood.

A slight decrease in the level fails to indicate an underlying problem.

Levels, as low as lesser than 2500 cell per microliter of blood is life threatening and poses a severe risk on the individual. Kindly check the levels and revert to a physician regarding the levels, as infection might be present.

The various contributing factors of low white blood count are radiation therapy, viral infection and HIV, bone marrow complications, such as myelodysplastic syndrome or leukaemia, lupus and other auto immune disorders and certain medications and antibiotics, used in chemotherapy.

Reduced white blood count is referred to as leucopoenia. Maintenance of personal hygiene to decrease the risk of infection is important. Clean your mouth properly. A face mask proves beneficial, when in a crowd, as the risk infection is greater. Any injury or wound is taken care immediately. Wash hands regularly and trim your nails, keeping them short.
