Dietary advice for bronchitis

A child who is suffering from bronchitis has an inflammation of the mucous membranes lining the bronchial tubes. This inflammation results in the secretion of large quantities of mucous. This is the phlegm that emerges from when you cough.

This causes the child to suffer symptoms like breathlessness, loss of appetite, hoarseness, cough and in some cases, fever.

Bronchitis is usually caused by a change in the weather or as a result of some allergies. You can help the child find relief from bronchitis by giving her a drink of hot milk with a pinch of turmeric in it.

Taken at bedtime this drink  helps get rid of the mucous. Taking one tablespoon of raw onion juice in the morning helps get rid of the phlegm. Mix equal quantities of dry ginger powder, pepper and clove powder. You can store this. Mix one teaspoon of this with half a teaspoon of honey and give to the child at least thrice a day.

The child should be given food that is easy to eat and digest. She should not be given oily and spicy food. The child can be allowed to eat fruits. However banana and other fruits like grapes cannot be given to a person suffering from bronchitis. This will only further aggravate her condition.
