Fungal Nail Infection Treatment

The discoloration that you seem to have on your toe nail is generally the first signs of a fungal infection of the toe. Usually the nail tends to develop a yellow white or brow patch. Sometimes the nail also appears chipped or brittle. The skin surrounding the nail also appears to be scaly and flaky. There are two common types of nail fungus which are yeast and dermatophytes, of which dermatophytes are the most common. It is important that you pay attention to your toenail if it is indeed a fungal infection because fungal infections left untreated can cause permanent damage to your toe nails and you can even lose the whole nail if the infection is extremely severe.

Tough the discoloration of your toe may not necessarily indicate that your toe has a fungal infection. It is necessary that you consult your doctor or a dermatologist as to what treatment is best for you. The treatment for a fungal infection is generally the use of antibiotics which are ingested and travel through the blood stream in order to attack the fungus which actually lives a good deal below the nail in the nail bed. Until you can get a proper diagnosis there are some steps you can follow like always washing your feet when you come fro m outside, wearing clean socks at all times and the use of proper fitting shoes.
