Whooping cough or pertussis is an infectious disease that is most common in infants and children. Whooping cough causes a characteristic whooping sound between coughing spells, hence the name. It used to be a significant cause of mortality in infants before there were vaccines. Now most children get immunised against whooping cough in the first year of life, so whooping cough is no longer as common as it used to be. Syrup of garlic is said to be beneficial for hoarseness of the throat and for coughs in general. It is said to be helpful with whooping cough as well. Here is a recipe for garlic syrup:

Ingredients:Garlic cloves - 1 pound , Distilled water, 1 cup honey, 1 cup glycerin, Apple Cider Vinegar(ACV)

Directions:
  • Peel and mash the garlic cloves. Fill a 2 quart jar that has been sterilized, with vinegar and water in equal proportions to 3/4th of its capacity. Add garlic cloves to Close the jar and keep it in the fridge for 4 days, shaking it every now and then .
  • After 4 days, add glycerine and shake again so the ingredients are properly mixed up. Let it stand for another day.
  • Strain this mixture through a strainer or cheesecloth so the garlic pieces are removed. Put the mixture back in the jar, add the honey and mix well.
  • Store this syrup in the fridge.
