Will I lose weight? Suggest some effective tips

Losing weight or weight loss depends on how much weight you really want to lose. The Body Mass Index (BMI) helps indicate whether your weight is adequate or is in a healthy range in comparison to your height.  The Body mass Index is a simple calculation dividing your weight by the square of your height. A healthy or normal range lies in between 18.5 to 22.9. Anything lower is considered underweight and higher overweight. This is the basic parameter to know how much weight you need to lose to figure in the healthy or normal Body Mass Index chart.

Losing weight is primarily fixated on two specific target areas namely, food and exercise. Food intake has to be cautiously monitored to bring down calorie intake while exercise ensures you burn more calories. When your calorie intake is lesser than the calorie burned you start reducing your weight gradually. Diets are a simple way out and therefore once you start eating your normal diet the pounds creep back. Eating healthy and moderate exercise is required to fight the fat and remain fit.

Basic food principles such as eating raw foods, fresh fruits, juices, vegetables, nuts, grains and cereals are healthy alternatives. Fried, fatty and sweet foods must be most avoidable in an attempt to lose weight. Carbonated beverages, alcohol, stimulants such as tea, coffee must also be avoided to enable control over your diet. Refined and processed foods such as pasta, cheese must be avoided. Turn to raw vegetables and low oil diets gradually along with a fitness regime to see a difference. Prefer vegetable oils instead of butter. Replace whole milk with skimmed milk to reduce fat intake. Exercise can be either a regular 45 minute workout or any routine activity such as walking, jogging, swimming or cycling. Aerobics, dancing, yoga, sports can also give adequate physical exercise to burn the calories and lose weight gradually. Step up your calorie burning activity by adding additional physical activity such as taking the stairs, walking to closer distances, taking children to the park.

You can also try some home remedies that induce weight loss such as drinking a glass of water with juice of a squeezed lemon and honey to flush the toxins from your system. Ginger tea is also an effective remedy to lose weight as it aids digestion. Having ginger tea two to three times a day can help in weight loss. Certain foods such as cabbage and finger millet are ideal foods for weight loss.

Only you can determine how to best lose weight --depending upon your general state of health, your reasons for wanting to lose weight and the underlying cause(s) for excess weight.  Since there is a significant mental/emotional component to body image, your reasons for weight loss would need to be explored in detail to develop an individualized program for success.

It's not always just food choices and lifestyle --sometimes people inherit some physiological predispositions or have endocrine imbalances which make it very difficult to lose weight.  When I work with patients who wish to lose weight --certainly diet (food choices) and exercise (aerobic and strength training) are key variables.  My goal tends to be to help them achieve better health --and weight loss is simply one result.

Lab tests are often relevant in establishing a baseline and identifying underlying health conditions which may need to be addressed during the weight loss process.

Being healthy at any weight is a challenge, and requires both knowledge and discipline in making the right lifestyle choices to benefit your body.  For most people, they need help and support to do this.  Please consult a qualified health care practitioner to help you in this process.  The first step is the desire to change, then taking action.
