What are malignant moles and how are they treated?

A malignant mole is called mole melanoma. It is a form of skin cancer. Often when you spot a mole on your skin and it changes its size rapidly, along with colour and sensitivity, it is often called a melanoma mole. Skin radiation and overexposure to the sun is usually the cause for melanoma at least 90 per cent of the times. These moles appear in most exposed areas and are caused by the harmful UV rays.

The moles can look crusty, can itch and can be of various colours. Once these blisters ooze or bleed, it usually is an indication that you should seek medical help. If you aren’t sure about the kind of mole it is, you can ask your general practitioner to check the mole.

The treatment for malignant moles is usually surgery. Sometimes radiation is also given to prevent further recurrences. Once you get skin cancer, the chances are very high that you can get it again. Sometimes these melanomas can occur at sensitive areas of the body. In such cases, chemotherapy is used to treat the malignant moles.

As a preventive measure, it is also important to cover up when you step out in the sun and not underestimate the use of a sun block or a sun screen.
