Lice Home remedy

My daughter gets lice on a regular basis. I have cleaned and sprayed everything every time I find another egg. Is there any home remedy that will work to keep the lice away? Thank You.

Suave makes a coconut shampoo. The coconut oil in the shampoo acts like a repellent for the lice. It works. My daughter has not had lice in 5 years and every year someone at her school or daycare has them.

Try these home remedies:

  1. Using a fine toothed comb: Spread a thin white cloth. Sit with your face slightly bent facing the floor. Pour and slightly massage coconut oil into your scalp and hair. Comb your hair with a fine toothed comb so that with each sweep of your hair any lice or nits are not scattering all over the place but falling onto the white cloth or remaining in the fine teeth of your comb. This helps to remove lice as well as nits (lice eggs).
  2. Using oils: Prepare a mixture of 1/ 2 tsp of eucalyptus, ½ tsp pennyroyal and ½ tsp rosemary. Add 2 ½ tablespoon of pure olive oil. You should first dab the mixture on the inside of your elbow to make sure it doesn't burn. If it burns, add more olive oil.

Wash your child's hair with hot water (as hot as your daughter can tolerate it). Then comb the above oil mixture through hair with a regular throw-away comb. Then use method 1 to remove any nits or eggs. Tie your daughter's head with a cotton scarf and keep it overnight. If she feels a tingling or burning sensation, wash it immediately. Dilute the mixture and try again.

Next morning, wash off your daughter's hair with a good tea tree shampoo available at your local pharmacy.

To prevent your daughter from getting lice esp. if her school friends may have it, rub tea tree oil or sassafras oil into the scalp.

To prevent reinfection, soak brushes, combs and hair accessories in hot water for 20 mins. Change and wash bedding and clothing often and dry in hot clothes dryer for at least 20 minutes. Vacuum carpets and upholstery.
