Diet for colitis

are there any diets that can help to reduce the chance of colitis starting again once you have had it? Doctors seem always to give steroids, which cannot be too safe.

Colitis may have several triggers which would need to be identified by knowing more about your history.  However, one common cause of colitis is eating foods to which you have developed a sensitivity.  The foods and their breakdown products will trigger inflammation. A trained health care practitioner will be able to test for food sensitivities.  Common foods to which people develop a sensitivity are wheat, cow's milk, citrus fruit, soy, eggs, peanuts, tomatoes, potatoes, chocolate, etc.  Processed foods with food additives and dyes may also trigger inflammation.  In addition to dietary analysis, probiotics are often used as a supportive therapy.
