Some Facts and Signs of Diabetes

The signs of diabetes often remain unnoticed as they appear harmless.



If they are detected at an early stage, chances are that complications can be averted. Beta cell destruction may start quite early though the symptoms develop over a shot period of time. Type 1 diabetes has symptoms like thirst and urination, continuous hunger, weight loss, hazy vision and fatigue. If diabetes is not treated on time the person can collapse and end up into a severe diabetic coma called ketoacidosis.



The inception of type 2 diabetes is not abrupt and the symptoms develop steadily. These signs are frequent urination, slow healing of wounds, increased thirst and hunger. Some type 2 diabetic patients do not exhibit any symptoms at all. Irritability and dryness in the mouth are also important diabetes symptoms.



Overweight is an important diabetes cause in women although those suffering from gestational diabetes may experience no symptoms at all. Hypertension diabetes, obesity diabetes and sugar diabetes can be identified according to their specific causes.

Due to the presence of surplus glucose in the blood, an excessive amount of water is drawn from the tissues and this creates dehydration. To slake thirst, large quantity of water and other beverage is consumed. This makes the diabetic person urinate more frequently.



There is loss of appetite and due to weakness a person may feel as if he has developed some viral infirmity. Excess sugar in the blood can injure the small vessels to the nerves. This produces tingling or loss of sensation in hands and feet and burning pain in the legs, feet, hands and arm. Some degree of sexual dysfunction may occur in people aged 50 years and above.



There is a danger of extracting infection in the bones that hold our teeth and in the gums creating pockets of pus in it. If a person had gum infection prior to the onset of diabetes, then the chances of pulling away of the gums and loosening of teeth are more.

The facts about diabetes remain hidden behind innumerable misconceptions. People with diabetes can eat sugar, starchy foods and sweets or chocolates in small quantities.



High blood pressure and common cold is not more likely to afflict a diabetic patient than it is to a non diabetic person. A person suffering from any type of diabetes should consult their physician for the amount, frequency and types of fruits. A diabetic patient is likely to develop heart disease, stroke, and kidney diseases. They might lose their sight if they are above the age of 20 and diabetes is increasingly becoming one of the major causes of death.
