What Causes Different Forms of Arthritis?

There are various causes of arthritis depending on its various forms.

To some extent genetic variations of an individual are responsible for arthritis. As people grow older, they develop arthritis because the cartilage becomes brittle and its capacity to repair itself reduces. The damage to the hip joint and knee joint due to carrying extra body mass leads to arthritis in an overweight person.

Genetic disorders and hereditary factors are responsible for the disease of arthritis. The causes and arthritis symptoms are different in different patients.

Osteoarthritis is caused due to aging. It may follow an injury to a joint which means that a person is prone to osteoarthritis if they had hurt their joints through falls or accidents when they were young.

This can occur even years after the injury has healed. When body's defense system stops working properly, rheumatoid arthritis may develop. Other conditions like gout (where crystals build up-generally in the toe), lupus (where body's defense system breaks down) and viral hepatitis (infection of the liver), are the causes or rheumatoid arthritis.

Certain individuals who work in the field of heavy construction or those who are involved in doing excessive manual work run a risk of developing arthritis. Any kind of injury caused due to high level of sporting activities may develop arthritis later in that area where the injury had occurred. People, who experience some kind of joint infection, may develop arthritis of the joint.

Stress creates certain deficiencies in the body and disrupts the hormonal balance. This weakens the immune system and spreads arthritis. The environment we live in and our psychological framework may foster the development of arthritis.

Cold climate, atmospheric pressure changes, food allergy or a diet high in animal products may cause arthritis. Nutritional deficiency, excessive acidity and dehydration are also important causes of arthritis. Constipation and digestive disorder can also develop arthritis in the later years of life. Performing exercises and maintaining a regular and healthy diet can prevent and cure arthritis.
