What are Some Women Specific Conditions that Yoga Can Help With?

Yoga is an ancient system of exercise that aids in supporting various biological functions throughout the life cycle of a woman.



Through exercise, meditation and breathing, yoga also helps in curing and resolving variety of female problems and health disorders.

The system of yoga has shown rewarding results in relieving the symptoms of PMS, menstrual cycle and menopause. It also plays a major role in pre-pregnancy and post pregnancy.

PMS or Premenstrual syndrome is defined as a combination of symptoms that occurs before the menstrual cycle.



Almost all women experience these symptoms before the menstrual cycle beings. Menstrual cycle is a process that undergoes in every woman’s body once a month and prepares the body for pregnancy and child birth biologically.



From menarche to menopause it is a constant cyclic process in which unwanted uterus lining is excreted from the body. The cycle begins between the ages of 10-16 years and continues to operate till the age of 30 to 40 years.

Pregnancy is another stage of a woman’s life where yoga plays a dynamic role. During pregnancy and after delivery, a woman faces various hormonal changes that tend to change the daily routine by various challenges like reduced energy, lack of stamina, back ache, fatigue, nausea, vomiting and weakened pelvic muscles.



Here, prenatal yoga exercises help to prepare the body for child birth whereas postnatal yoga exercises help to regain the original body structure and provide extra energy to compete with the postpartum challenges.

Yoga and menopause are deeply linked. Menopause, defined as end of female reproductive phase of life, is another women specific condition that can be regulated with various yoga exercises.



It is a consequence of a natural biological process that is associated with variety of symptoms like headache, illness, hot flashes, wrinkles, hair loss, acne, dizziness, chronic health disorders and many more. Yoga cannot overcome the natural process but can definitely help curbing the associated symptoms and maintain optimal health.
