How Exercises Are Beneficial For Better Self Control

To exercise self control, individuals need to set themselves apart from the rest of the crowd by learning to focus on the task at hand, control their negativities and act with calmness in challenging situations.

There is an eightfold path which can be considered as the aids of Yoga, restraint (yama), observance (niyama), posture (asana), regulation of breathing (pranayama), abstraction of the senses (pratyahara), concentration (dharana), meditation (dhyana) and trance (samadhi). Restraint and observance form the core of the discipline of Yoga.

These are the self control exercises to be performed internally.

To do self control exercise, one needs to concentrate on any particular thought or object called trataka. Here, we fix our gaze on any one point and try to calm our senses through regularizing our breathing pattern.

We have to turn our thoughts and focus our concentration inwardly and contemplate on the thought uppermost in our minds. For enhanced health fitness exercise, we expel our breath and retain it simultaneously and then concentrate on only one thought.

This improves our vision and mental strength. We can gaze at a particular spot or a vision we like the most and focus internally by habituation.

This can be developed over a period of time and while we do this we should draw inspiration from the source. If we practice this regularly, our minds will become peaceful and our senses will be soothed and we can gain self control using Yoga.

External forces disturb us and to combat this, we need to learn not to react to such happenings.

Due to our mental weaknesses and an inability to adjust to the developing situation we are troubled. To overcome this problem, we need to gain self control and to do this we have to focus on our existence and the presence of our senses. This takes time and practice but eventually, when we master this art, we are at the very core of self control.

We also need to remove bad habits like substance abuse and tobacco consumption apart from being conscious for health and exercise. Once we master these, the path to gaining self control starts becoming easier. There are various health exercise like ‘Surya Namaskar’, where we maintain focus, ‘Bhramari’, here we pronounce the traditional word ‘Om’ and let it reverberate around us and ‘Brahma Mudra’, where we meditate and try to focus on our inner senses by closing the eyelids. If we are consistent at performing these self control exercises, we will always remain at the epitome of fitness and self control.
