The worst feeling in the world is having a toothache and no insurance! this method does work but its permenent. Cut an asprin tablet in half and place it right on top of the tooth that hurts. It will taste horrible but in about 10 or 15 mins the nerve will be dead and you can go on with life. Good luck!

I have found that a small clove of garlic placed on the tooth and held for 5-10 minutes really helps. Also rinsing with either baking soda, salt or both in very warm water helps.

For all of those in pain with teeth...

First let me begin by explaining that I have been a dental assistant for 7 years and you cannot "cure" an aching tooth other than either having a root canal or an extraction. You can do things to relieve the pain temporarily. The first thing you should do is contact a dentist or your medical doctor asap to see if there is a need for antibiotics and to get pain meds (95% of the time-you need antibiotics). Meanwhile, try Motrin (800mg) every 6-8hours (if you can take ibuprofin without any problems). Of course this means taking 4 pills of the regular 200 mg Motrin. Second of all, go to your drugstore and ask for "RedCross ToothAch Relief Drops" if this is not available purchase CLOVE OIL. Once you are home take a cotton ball and pull off very small pieces (about 3mm size) and roll into smaller balls, soak the piece in the clove oil and place directly on your tooth. Keep It here for at least 15 minutes and them change as needed. Warning-the taste is a bit strong but we use this at my boyfiend's (a great dentist)office Be sure to take the motrin b/c it is an anti-infammatory and will reduce the inplammation in the pulp of the tooth. If you have any swelling near your eye-GO TO A DENTIST! DO not use applied heat if you do have swelling b/c this will cause the infection to spread faster. Good Luck to all and I know this will help. Oh one more thing, make a dental appointment for a routine checkup at your local dental office (even if you hate going) this will "establish you" as a patient of that office making it easier to be seen in the case that you do get a terrible toothache in the future.

Immediate Relief of toothache
suggested by Daniel on Wednesday, February 7, 2007

Hold strong mixture of warm salt water in mouth and swish for 1 minute, then rinse. Next get a few sticks of sugarless gum and chew them up, mix in it a generous amount of clove powder and a few drops of vanilla extract. Chew some more and place in affected area and hold there for 1/2 hour. Later hold a lemon slice in affected area for 1/2 hour. Repeating these made the toothache bearable for me before seeing a dentist.
