A typical Migraine
suggested by jeannine
on Saturday, May 24, 2008
Some migraines involve vertigo and visual disturbance with severe nausea and vomiting. Check with your doctor to be sure there is no inner ear involvement. One thing to do as soon as you feel the first symptom coming on is to get your hands in the hottest water you can stand, until they are bright red. Drink a caffeine beverage; take Ibuprofen, at least 100 mg B6. If you can stand it will help to smoke a cigarette while your hand is in the water. Nicotine is a vaso constrictor. So is caffeine. I spent $35 an hour trying to use biofeedback to dilate the blood vessels in my hands when I decided there was a much easier way. The whole idea is to reduce the excess blood flow to the brain and to reduce the inflammation around the vessel.

nuerofeedback
suggested by Karin
on Tuesday, May 6, 2008
I have had migraines one or two times a month for the past 20 years and they last three days no matter what. I've tried all kinds of remedies and drugs. Then I tried nuerofeedback. It's been a year now with only two migraines that didn't even last a whole day and not as painful. My sister had the same problem and she did nuerofeedback and she had same results. When you feel like migraine is coming you should avoid certain foods like wine, cheese, olives, msg. etc.

I'm not sure if most people in the medical field will agree with this remedy, but SELF DETERMINATION can be described as the best remedy for Alcoholism.

Migraine
suggested by Segun
on Saturday, February 16, 2008
It's discovered that most migraine cases are caused by getting overworked, and too much exposure to loud sound and light. So the best remedy is to take a rest in a cool dark place, and the patient should sleep well.

aerobic excercise stopped my migraines
suggested by Clare
on Saturday, February 16, 2008
I used to have a migraine monthly with headache and vomiting, then started doing aerobic exercise 2-3 times a week and they improved dramatically. I have noticed if my level of exercise reduces (like over Christmas) I had a mild migraine but I was able to control it with medication, which previously i couldn't do. I had increasing levels of migraine over more than 10 years and since increasing my aerobic exercise I just get a mild headache occasionally which I can treat with over the counter medication and continue my life. Before I would loose 1 or 2 days a month, unable to function even with prescription medication.

Never skip a meal
suggested by Tiffany
on Wednesday, January 16, 2008
My son (12yrs old) has suffered for years due to dehydration he does not drink enough liquids so I make him drink 12 oz of Gatorade every morning & night and vitamin water during the day. He also gets a migraine if he skips breakfast or lunch so I make sure he eats something in the morning, a snack bar, cake, or anything. Once he gets a migraine, ibuprofen, an ice pack on his forehead or foot bath is all we can do.

Honey to Prevent Headaches
suggested by Lisa
on Monday, January 14, 2008
A spoonful of honey twice a day (once in the morning and once in the evening) prevents many of my headaches, especially weather-induced ones. It can be taken alone or dissolved in a hot drink. It is a preventative measure. It doesn't help once you have a headache.

cold water shower for migraine
suggested by scott
on Friday, January 4, 2008
An Ice-pack over the eyebrows is perfect. Ice or even very cold water (such as when at the water cooler), hold in place with cloth that does NOT allow ice to directly touch skin or eyes- as this can injure them. If your pain is so severe that you are becoming ill and or experiencing dysphoria you can get into the shower and use cold water shower (summertime) or progressively colder shower (winter) and squat/sit in the tub. A light touch to the eyes when closed will display three color auras. White- severe migraine, red- medium, and blue-normal. Either way the effect is the same, you must reduce the inflammation on the optic nerve located near the brain by using the optic nerves as the vehicle for reducing the swelling of the brain that is generally caused by muscle tension in the neck and back. This swelling restricts blood flow from the head and creates clogging within the brain and squeezes the optic nerve. If you choose the shower method ensure that the cool to cold water is distributed about the head, neck and back until light pressure on the eyes displays light red.
