Self Hypnosis

suggested by Ivan on Monday, April 23, 2007

Get a book on self hypnosis and work on it. It is highly effective against depression and addictions, and it is an effective psychotherapeutic tool. I truly believe in this.

Depression

suggested by C on Tuesday, February 27, 2007

Sunshine and fresh air! Get in the fresh air and imagine yourself happy. During a particularly bad depression, I spent weeks on an outdoor swing in the mornings watching the birds. I still have a special bond with birds! At first, a few hours helped enough to get me through the rest of my day. Later, I got through a few days, then a week, etc.

Depression

suggested by Hasina on Saturday, February 17, 2007

The best cure is to pray and ask God for assistance, also not to bottle up any emotion and write down all thoughts.

Bananas and Cocolate

suggested by Carolyn :-) on Friday, February 9, 2007

On the contray to what they said, chocolate is very good for a mood boost because it produces endorphines and serotonin. Same with bananas! (except I don't think they produce endorphines...not a scientist :) )Put them together and you have the perfect "Happy Pill"

Calcium

Double up your calcium intake (take at night and watch it if you take Synthroid--nulls the effect of synthroid) and PMS'y type blues go away.

5htp to help depression

suggested by Tonia on Tuesday, January 9, 2007

I take 5htp to help my depression. It helps to balance my seratonin levels in my brain, and also I sleep better, and my moods are more balanced. I have been taking 5htp for over 10 months and I feel human again. I was taking prescribed meds by my doc, but I did not like the way I felt. I feel so much better, and I am glad that 5htp is more natural and no side effects.

Light Therapy

suggested by Greg on Saturday, December 30, 2006

One possible treatment for depression (esp. Seasonal Affective Disorder) is increased exposure to full spectrum light. Use unfiltered sunlight or light from a 5000K fluorescent lamp (e.g. GE F15T8-SR held 8-12" from the face for 3 hours in the morning and 3 hours in the evening).
