I have just found out I am sensitive to wheat. Once I cut wheat out of my diet, I felt a lot better immediately, more energy, better sleep, happier mood. What I also found out is that if I avoid wheat based alcohols (whiskey, grain-based vodkas etc.) and limit myself to wine or potato-based vodka, I HAVE NO PROBLEM LIMITING MYSELF TO ONE OR TWO GLASSES. The desire to drink excessively has virtually disappeared overnight ...

Clarification on Alcoholism
suggested by [unspecified] on Sunday, December 31, 2006
In my last entry on Nov.1, I was in no way implying that alcoholics should not refrain from alcohol, nor was I implying that I am an 'expert' on the topic. I was only making a suggestion, and in my opinion, anyone should research their issue before 'labeling' themselves as anything. That way, you know you are 'diagnosing' yourself correctly. Only a suggestion.

Although I am not a recovering alcoholic, I have read over and over that when alcoholics have been tested, they all have a zinc deficiency. When you are zinc deficient your body has an inability to metabolize alcohol. Also, your body has to have zinc to absorb any other minerals. Google search 'zinc deficieny' and read for yourself.

Stopping Alcoholism
suggested by Devin
on Tuesday, October 10, 2006
I can't stress enough how much keeping a belly full of food can stop the craving for alcohol. I drank excessively for over 20 years and finally quit. The first month was the hardest. I realized that I craved alcohol when I had an empty stomach. Eating a large meal lessened the craving. I gained some weight, but my overall health is better. Also, I now have more time to excercise since I'm not sitting at a bar or nursing a hangover on the couch all day.
