Basics

I've also tried many things including over the counter face washes. People think that you control the acne by the amount of times you wash your face. Sometimes, this can actually make your face worse, if you over do it. The fact of the matter is, acne is not caused because you're not washing your face enough. 2-3 times a day is the right amount. MOre than that can cause your face to get extremely dry, and what i call dry/peeling pimples. I try to avoid oily soaps, but don't get the harsh soap products that blatantly state "FOR ACNE PRONE SKIN"... that was a big no no for me because i realized that my skin is extremely sensitive, and it actually not only dried out my face and made it sting, but it also irritated my face and made it worse. Try a gentle cleansor, something that doesn't have an alcohol in it, or any benzyl peroxide, or any other type of chemicals that my dry out your skin. I use, L'OREAL DermoExpertise for Dry skin, ( i tried all four types) and i liked this one, because of its easy foaming, and gentleness. THen afterwards, don't forget to moisturize. Try a basic oilfree moisturizer; one with no chemicals like benzyl peroxide , in it as well. Also, if you can, definately go to a dermatologist. A lot of health insurance covers Acne. I personally, use Differin, and love it. My face has gotten a lot clearer. ALSO, do NOT pick on your zits.. i used to pop them all the time because i figured, the sooner they're gone the better. THe past month i've been not popping them, and realized that they actually heal faster and the scars become less visible. So listen to this and DO NOT POP THEM as annoying as they are.

To those of you feeling hopeless

I think i've tried every possible thing to get rid of acne and sometimes the best route to go is through a dermatologist. wash your face 2 - 3 times a day (esp if you are really oily)with a gentle cleanser--Oil of Olay Sensitive skin cleanser works really well and is so gentle b/c it's oil/soap/frangrance/dye free. also exfoliate gently every other day with good scrub--i used St. Ives medicated apricot scrub. that gets rid of buildup of dead skin cells and excess oil which can clog pores. make sure you wash your make-up off every night--never sleep in make up that is the worst thing for your skin. make sure anything you put on your skin is OIL-free. Also watch out for skin care products containing ingredients called, "parabens" (i.e. methylparaben, butylparaben, etc) b/c they have a tendency to clog pores as well. Putting a 2% salicylic acid gel-ointment on at night is very helpful too (suggestion:CLinique Acne Solutions nighttime gel). These all have worked really good for my skin. However, my skin is EXCESSIVELY oily and I HAD to go to the dermatologist to be put on what she termed "industrial strength" acne gel (Tazorac gel) to keep my skin exfoliating b/c my pores clog so easily. Tazorac can't be handled by all skins beccause it is very irritating and can cause redness/peeling/itching--but, it is good at controlling cystic acne. I'm 22 and have had acne since I was in 5th grade so I've tried everything from A-Z. Some birth control pills help as well--I went down that path and it did help my skin but made my hair fall out so be careful. I hope those of you that have suffered as I have have found this information helpful. Good luck! :-)

Astringent remedy

suggested by philip on Wednesday, December 6, 2006

I have naturally oily skin. The only time I don't have break-outs is when my sking is dry and the only thing I've found to dry my skin is 100% astringent. Available at any HBA section of a supermarket. Apply with hot water. It is like pure alcohol. It will sting a little but within 24 hours acne is gone. I apply every two days and have no acne.

ACNE

I had acne real bad after doing months of researching, I found my solution and it may help others also. In the morning rinse face with hot water not scalding steamy enough to open pores in skin. Then pat dry and apply oily of olay complete defence spf30. Carry this with you in your purse or pocket. Repeat this step at least 3 times a day until acne has cleared. Then once acne is gone, do once in morning and once in the evening like after work or dinner. Do not do right before bed. This not only clears your skin but also stops any sun damage, tones your skin color out,and stops wrinkles. Give it a try I know you will be satisfied.

tough acne solver

suggested by Karen on Tuesday, December 5, 2006

After many years of trying practically everything chemical and natural in the marlet I finally found something that worked. High quality Essential Oils like the ones produced by Young Living. wash face with mild non-clogging cleanser, apply Melrose Blend Oil and cover with coconut oil on affected area. Coconut oil must also be high quality organic, cold pressed oil. Next night use Lavender Oil or Gentle Baby Blend again with the coconut covering it and alternate like this. You can use in morning too if you have very tough acne. Essential Oils MUST be of high quality otherwise will not work...even those you get in health food store that say 100% organic are not good quality--it turns out that by law they only have to contain 10% total of oil,the rest can be a solvent or other oil and still be labeled 100%organic!!!so no wonder they never worked on me before! Also solvents are used to extract more oil out of plant but this lowers the quality of oils and leaves toxic residues. Also much of the lavender on the market is actually lavandin which smells almost the same but has different medicinal properties. They MUST be therapeutic grade to work well! You can contact me and I will set you up with info so you can get these oils yourself bc not many stores carry them. Also taking evening Primrose capsules on recommended dosages works internally-Royal Brittany makes a good product. As well try to clean up your diet, my dermatologist told me it made no difference what I ate which is simply untrue-there just havent been studies to prove the connection but by observation it is true that food affects acne, obviously what you eat makes up your blood and your blood feeds and make skin...if the blood is toxic your skin will be subsceptible to acne. Good luck...

Acne

Even if you wash your face, some people just get acne because they have oily skin! If you wear make up, try oil free make- up & make sure you use an oil-free moisturizer before applying on make up in the morning. This will be the base for your make- up and wont clog your pores. Then take the make up off with a baby wipe, exfoliate and moisturize before bed. Dont forget to let your skin take breaks without make up though. If you do not wash your face everyday and take the make up off it takes 2 weeks for your skin to get back to wear it was!!!
