Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy means usage of chemicals to treat patients to reduce their illnesses.

Chemotherapy is commonly used today for patients diagnosed with cancer. Chemotherapy is temporary but has been profiting patients with cancer substantially, especially those who have cancer in its first stage.

So what is chemotherapy? It is altering chemicals for using these as medicines so that people especially with terminal illnesses get a longer lease of life. Today, chemotherapy is commonly used as a therapy for people with cancer rather than any other types of illnesses.

Chemotherapy drugs are essentially made from chemicals, which are not always good for the human body. Chemotherapy is often the only option for destruction of cancerous growth in human bodies. Chemotherapy is also a scary option since people going through chemotherapy also have to go through a lot of physical pain and exhaustion. Both of these often lead to malnourishment of patient.

Since there is a use of chemicals in chemotherapy, it is obvious that none of the chemicals might do well to a patient. It is beneficial only when there is no other option. It was first discovered in World War II when it was found out that people exposed to certain chemicals has low white blood vessel count, however, it was found that such a treatment for people with blood cancer might prove to be very useful. Therefore, research began on finding those chemicals, which might help reduce and remove the cancerous cells all together.

This was the beginning of chemotherapy, which is still being used to treat patients.

However, chemotherapy is not used only for cancer, it is also used for people with autoimmune diseases, it is also used in patients who have transplanted body parts, which are being rejected by the body. Here chemotherapy suppresses any rejection and allows the transplanted body part to gel in.

Chemotherapy is also seen as a scary option.

Chemotherapy side effects are of extreme nature. The patients go through a lot of physical discomfort after undergoing chemotherapy. Chemotherapy side effects include convulsions, constipation, drying up of water inside the body and patients require drinking lot of water after chemotherapy. Another chemotherapy side effect is hair loss, to the extent that the patient becomes all together bald, though the hair grows back again after the effects of chemotherapy have waned off.

Therefore, chemotherapy is seen as a boon as well as has harsh effects on the physical condition of the patients. Many cancer patients die due to malnourishment after chemotherapy rather than cancer itself.
