Caesarean |
Caesarean or C-SectionPregnancy is a truly magical time in a woman’s life.
A woman is able to feel life growing inside of her. As the baby becomes bigger in the woman’s uterus the baby will begin to kick and the woman will feel as if she is experiencing one of the biggest miracles of life. During a woman’s pregnancy the woman may experience certain complications that will cause the doctor to want to perform a caesarean.
A cesarean may be performed in the woman in petite or if the woman’s hips are not wide enough to give birth. A caesarean will be performed in order to ensure the safety of the mother and her infant.
In a caesarean section the baby is removed from the mother’s abdomen. In the United States one out of four women has a caesarean section performed.
Most cesarean sections occur because there has been an unexpected problem during the delivery. An unexpected problem during delivery may be health problems in the mother, if the woman is carrying more that one baby, the position of the baby, signs of distress in the baby and not enough room for the baby to go through the opening of the vagina.
During labor and delivery the doctor will closely monitor the mother and her baby in order to see if a cesarean section will be necessary.
The process of labor and delivery can take a few hours to several days.
The surgery is considered to be safe for both the infant and the mother. Still though, a caesarean is major surgery that has a greater risk then if a woman gives vagina birth.
As the body is healing from having a caesarean performed the woman may acquire a weak spot in the wall of her uterus. This may cause problems during the woman’s second pregnancy and birthing process. This is only a problem though for fifty percent of women.
The umbilical cord is the part of the baby that connects the baby to the mother’s placenta. It is through the umbilical cord that the baby receives nutrients, food and oxygen. It is very important during pregnancy that the umbilical cord is not restricted to the baby. Some umbilical cords have a reduced flow of nutrients and oxygen which can cause damage to a developing fetus. A sonogram will be able to tell if the baby is receiving the right amount of nutrients and oxygen through the umbilical cord.
