Surgeries |
Procedures and SurgeriesAnyone knows what surgery is, but for the sake of the few that may not, surgery is defined as “the treatment of a person through manual or instrumental operations.
Surgeries and procedures are two different things as well. In surgery one is being cut open and anesthesia might be used. While a procedure can be something as simple as acupuncture or a tooth being pulled. Now, there are many types of surgeries or procedures. One could break down surgeries into two separate categorizes: the surgeries people need and the surgeries people want.
Sometimes the procedures done in one category can be in the other, but for the most part they are very unrelated.
First, there are the surgeries one chooses to have. This would be the plastic surgery: breast implants, lasik eye surgery, nose jobs, and so forth. These types of procedures are purely cosmetic. People may opt to have these when they think there are flaws in their bodies.
These surgeries are mostly outpatient, meaning the patient may go home the same day as the procedure if it went well. Then there are the surgeries that a persons needs. These would include bypass, kidney transplant, amputation, skin grafts, and more. With out these kinds of procedures some people would die.
Common sense tells you that there are pros and cons to having anything surgically done to your body and most people have common sense.
For those who don't here are some risks that come with surgery. With any surgery there is a risk taken. The risks are different with each surgery and vary with importance. First of all, there is the risk of infection, especially when the surgery is as invasive as open heart or hip replacement surgery. Then there is the recovery period.
One might stay a day or a month recovering from any particular procedure. There is always the risk of the doctor not performing the procedure correctly. Now, there are as many cons about surgery as well. If it is a life saving procedure and it works, well, you are alive. When it is a cosmetic procedure one might have more confidence built and feel beautiful.
For the obese people, a gastric bypass surgery can dramatically change their life so that they lose weight. Depending on how one perceives it, the pros of having a procedure done can outweigh the cons.
Surgeries can be a choice or a need. No matter which it is, a surgery can have dramatic affects on a person’s life. A person is either being saved or changing their looks. Both are good and bad.
