Diabetes SymptomsDiabetes is caused due to the non-capability of the body to either produce or utilize insulin to convert glucose into energy.
If insulin is not used properly, the glucose in the body that is supposed to produce fuel for the body simply gets deposited in the body. Thus the energy required for the body functioning is not obtained and the glucose consumed by way of food becomes a waste.
Diabetes is of various types and can occur at any age.
Diabetes may develop gradually in a person. So the signs of diabetes are difficult to recognize initially.
As time passes, certain symptoms are recurrent and one must immediately take the various diabetes diagnostic tests.
A high blood sugar level is one of the main signs of diabetes. However, it has to be diagnosed by conducting certain tests. Apart from this, there are certain classic diabetes symptoms.
Frequent Urination (polyuria) is caused due to the glucose present in the body that is unable to go to the tissues, muscles and body cells for smooth functioning. So it gets deposited in the body. The remaining glucose comes out of the body in the form of urine.
Increased thirst (polydipsia) due to frequent urination is another common symptoms of diabetes.
Fatigue/ tiredness results as the glucose just gets deposited as fats, so the body doesn’t receive the essential energy required for smooth functioning. Increased appetite (polyphagia) is another symptom, as the body doesn’t get enough fuel for metabolism and weight loss inspite of increased appetite.
Apart from the standard diabetic symptoms, there are some more symptoms of type 1 diabetes such as nausea, vomiting, absence of menstruation in case of women.
In a type 2 diabetic person in addition to the classic symptoms of diabetes, the person suffers from blurred vision, poor healing of wounds/infections, impotency in case of men.
In gestational diabetes, the additional symptoms are nausea & vomiting, blurred vision, frequent occurrence of bladder, skin and vaginal infections.
If one is suffering from any of this diabetes type, he/she may not have all the diabetic symptoms of those types of diabetes. The minor symptoms go unnoticed such as – slight blindness, minor injuries that are not healing, dry skin.
If the symptoms are occurring consistently one must visit the doctor. Doctors may also suspect diabetes in case of blurry vision, slow healing infections, heart problems, etc.
In case of any of these diabetes symptoms, it is essential to do diagnostic tests for diabetes. If diabetes is diagnosed, immediate steps for diabetes treatment & cure should be taken seriously.
One of the major reasons for severe diabetes is that it is not diagnosed in the early stages. Thus, the complications that are caused due to diabetes increase making the situation a bit more harmful. |
