Diabetes InsulinInsulin is produced in the Islets of Langerhans in the pancreas.
It is a hormone that controls the amount of sugar present in the blood. In diabetics, the pancreas is not able to produce enough insulin or there might be resistance to insulin. Thus, the insulin present in the body is not used effectively. All this results in high blood sugar levels, which causes diabetes.
Diabetes or high blood sugar levels can lead to other complications like heart diseases, circulatory problems, kidney impairment, eye damage, severe infection which may also lead to gangrene and amputation, impotency in men, nerve damages, etc.
Blood sugar insulin spikes are needed daily for insulin dependent diabetes. In case of non insulin dependent diabetes, there is diabetes insulin resistance. So even if the body produces some amount of insulin, it is not used effectively. Insulin for diabetics in case of insulin dependent diabetes is like a lifeline.
Insulin for diabetics is also taken when the diabetes medication does not work effectively to control the blood sugar levels.
The diabetes insulin type has developed over a period of time. Earlier the diabetes insulin acted for a short period and hence it had to be injected many times during the day. Today depending upon ones blood glucose levels, the number of insulin injections can be consumed ranging from 1 to 4 times/day. Regular monitoring of sugar levels is important otherwise it may lead to hypoglycemia.

There are several methods for diabetes insulin intake in both insulin dependent diabetes and non insulin dependent diabetes. The most commonly used diabetes insulin type is insulin injection using a syringe through the skin into the fatty tissues.
Insulin pumps are external devices attached to the body. It is like a small pump connected by flexible tube to a cathetar and is located under the skin of abdomen. The amount of insulin to be pumped has to be programmed. It is recommended not to use their device during any physical activity.
Insulin pens are like cartridges that are filled with insulin. A short pointed needle at the tip of the insulin pen is pierced into the skin. These insulin pens can also have replaceable cartridges. The required amount of insulin can be taken by pressing on the plunger at the end of the pen. Jet injection is a needless part of methods for diabetes insulin intake to inject insulin by sending a high-pressure dosage of insulin through the skin.
Each individual can decide a particular mode after taking a diabetologist’s advice. Each medium is different in the sense how soon it starts to work how long the effect is there & when is it most effective.
