Beach Diabetes Diet SouthThe South beach diet is the right mix of carbohydrates and fats that help to reduce the body weight, cholesterol & heart-related complications.
South beach diet and diabetes can go hand in hand. Excess weight leads to insulin resistance due to which the body stores more fat. By way of south beach diet for diabetes the bad carbohydrates are cut reducing the triglycerides and cholesterol levels.
One should be cautious in case of kidney problems, kidney damages due to diabetes while adhering to beach diabetes diet south.
South Beach diet permits ample fats, animal proteins, nuts, low-fat cheese and yogurt and monounsaturated fats found in olive oil & canola oil.
There are three phases in following south beach diet for diabetes. The first phase is carried out for two weeks. It is considered to be the most difficult part of the diet in which one can lose from 8 upto 11 lb. In this phase of beach diabetes diet south, one can eat sufficient amounts of good fat, proteins and carbohydrates that have low-glycemic index.
There is craving for sweets, cookies, starches, etc. but till this phase ends the craving also stops.
The portions should be normal size but do not eat more than what you actually need to satisfy your hunger. It is recommended to eat six times during the day. This will ensure that you will not feel hungry or starve.
The second phase of the south beach diet includes fruit, sweet potatoes, whole grain bread, wheat pastas in the diet.
One piece of fruit daily along with cereals and bread can be taken. In this phase, there is gradual weight loss of 1 to 2 lb/ week. One should continue with this phase till the desired weight loss is achieved. If, there is weight increase then go back to phase 1 and again lose weight.
Low glycemic index foods like high-fiber cereal, berries, apples, grapefruits, whole wheat breads are preferred as compared to high GI foods which contain a lot of sugar & carbohydrates like cakes, cookies, pasta, potatoes, etc.
To enhance the benefit from south beach diet and diet, constantly monitor what foods are affecting you in which way. Whether your weight loss has increased, reduced, increased cravings, makes you full or hungrier should be paid attention to. It is also beneficial to note the GI for various foods.
The third phase should be adopted for the lifetime.
This is a relaxed stage where you can eat what you like by but in moderation. If you tend to overeat over a period of time, you can switch back to phase 1 and again reach the optimum weight level.
It is considered that weight loss regains when the carbohydrate intake starts again. However while considering south beach diet for diabetes, it will be best to consult a dietician & doctor and this effort should be coupled with regular exercises to aid in controlling diabetes.
