Prostate Cancer |
Prostate CancerProstate is a male reproductive organ which helps storage or seminal fluid and provides nourishment and medium of transfer to sperms.
Prostrate cancer is the cancer that develops in this gland. The cancer can metastasize to other parts of the body especially bones and lymph nodes if not treated in time.
Prostate cancer symptoms are not found easily, these take time to develop, and therefore, prostate cancer is not easily detected unless there is growth of the tumor.
There are some symptoms however, which should encourage the patient to visit the doctor, these are increased urination, especially at night, painful starting and stopping of urination, blood in urine, the person also might find it difficult to maintain a steady rhythm of urination. The person might also have difficulty in carrying out sexual functions like ejaculation.
If the disease has already to metastasize to other parts of body then there might be other prostate cancer symptoms like the bone pain, pelvic pain, etc.
It can also cause weakness of legs and inconsistency in urine and fecal functions.
The cancer prostrate is adenocarcinoma, this cancer is glandular, men over the age of 50 years are at higher risk of developing prostate cancer. Since this cancer is slow and relatively painless, once this cancer is discovered doctors can advance slowly towards removal of this cancer.
Prostate cancer treatment includes normal cancer treatments like surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, etc. only after proper study and after waiting watchfully for the cancer to show all its characteristics.
If the cancer is non-malignant, people might choose to just keep a watch on the cancer, however, though this is done, they might require approaching surgery within 2-3 years of time.
Doctors will conduct a prostatectomy only after the radiation therapy has failed to achieve any goals, or the cancer has not responded well to the radiation therapy.
Prostate cancer can be prevented by regular intake of two supplements which aim at replenishing minerals that have been identified as a reason for prostate cancer; these are Vitamin E and selenium. Doctors are also advising intake of herbal supplements like the green tea etc.
To avoid cancer, doctors have also advised that meat intake in daily food should be avoided.
Diagnosis of the prostate cancer is done by the urologist who acquires the samples of the prostate through rectum. Cystoscopy is another method used for diagnosis of this cancer, another method is transrectal ultrasonography.
