Liver Cancer |
Liver Cancer Liver cancers are one more types of cancer which could invade your body.
Liver cancers many a times do not form all by themselves in liver, most of the times these are secondary cancers where cancer cells have traveled from cancers elsewhere in the body (metastases) and have grown into a tumor in the liver.
The metastases can be from any other cancer like the breast cancer, ovarian cancer, lung cancer, renal cancer, etc.
There is possibility that there might be a primary cancer growth in liver, though these cases are quite rare.
The most malignant liver cancer is named hepatoma or hepatocellular carcinoma.
The occurrence of these types of tumors has increased in the recent years.
Benign liver cancer is hepatic hemagioma, hepatic adenoma, this type of benign liver cancer is found in women who are taking estrogen as contraceptives, or those who have been using steroids, hamartoma, etc.
Liver cancers can be diagnosed through medical imaging; this imaging could be done for the purpose of finding out the liver cancer or could be done for some other reason. Symptoms of liver cancer are not very easy to find out, the cancer can exist in patient’ body as a mass or as some other form of ailments, for e.g. jaundice, some other liver dysfunction etc., and symptom can also be abdominal pain.
Liver cancer is particularly difficult to treat because it is discovered later than any other types of cancer, liver cancer does not show symptoms fast enough, therefore, liver cancer is detected only when it is in an advanced stage, this cancer can be treated but not with much success, however, these treatments do offer some relief to the patient from the pain and help the patient to live a better life than he would have normally been able to enjoy.
There are several causes of liver cancer, one of them is alcohol abuse, alcohol causes permanent and irreparable scarring of the liver, preventing liver from healing itself properly, therefore, alcohol is taken as main cause for liver cancer. Other than this exposure to aflatoxins and arsenic are also the main causes of liver cancer, since both have been known as being carcinogenic since a long time.
Though there are a lot many causes of liver cancer, alcohol abuse is turning out to be the main cause, thus by preventing or limiting use of alcohol can work in a long way to prevent liver cancer. |
