What is Cancer?

Cancer is a dreaded word; we are scared to associate ourselves or any of us whom we love with this word.



Though cancer is a dangerous disease it is necessary that we know more about it. So what is cancer? Cancer is division and growth of abnormal cells without any control, these cells can spread through bloodstream and lymphatic system, to other parts of the body.





There are several different types of cancer, most of these spread through the bloodstream and start affecting other parts of the body. The process of spread of cancer is known as metastasis.



Many a times, when the cells start growing without any control, these form a tumor, metastasis occurs from this tumor to other parts of the body, a tumor formed from these cells is known as metastatic tumor.

Only cancerous cells that are malignant spread through the body and start destroying tissues every place they spread and cause a general havoc to the metabolic system. For most of the non-malignant cancers, there is no treatment other than, operation or tests which make sure that the cancer is not malignant and spreading.





Cancer treatment for malignant cancer is a difficult one. In fact, there is no one treatment, malignant cancer cells require to be removed or destroyed within the body itself.



Cancer treatment varies for different stages of cancer, if cancer has been detected in first stage, the treatment might be lighter one, with periodic checkups and further treatments if necessary.

Leukemia also known as blood cancer affects the bone marrow of a person and causes the bone marrow to send more blood into the system.



The blood circulating throughout the body also spreads cancer through body. Cancer treatment for certain types of leukemia can be done through bone marrow transplant, but in some cases it is almost impossible.

In cancer has been detected in later stages, cancer treatment might be difficult, here several treatments are combined together so that the cancer is destroyed once and for all. Life longevity might vary depending on the person’s ability to cope up with the harsh treatments and ability to fight the disease.

Cancer treatment is a complex and expensive treatment. Therefore, curing cancer takes a toll on the mental health and physical health of the patient as well as his family members. There are many organizations offering financial help to people suffering from this difficult disease.
