You may continue doing this three times a day and make sure your clothes are loosely stitched and made of fabrics that can breathe. Applying calamine lotion on swelling and welts can alleviate the irritation the patient suffers from.
Oatmeal is proven and the most effective in fighting hives related problems. Soak oatmeal in about a cup of lukewarm or boiling water, drain the oat and use the water in hives affected areas.
Take frequent baths and you can mix a slightly larger proportion of oatmeal and cornstarch in your tub, which will give you sure results. Applying or massaging vitamin E rich oil might also help in relieving the itch and to remove the marks if any.
In case if the irritation persists for hours or even days, rely on antihistamines, to help deal with the symptoms.
Antihistamines are the normal cold or allergy medicines and for acute hives attacks over-the-counter oral antihistamines like Atarax, Benadryl and Tagamet can prove useful. But in more persistent cases like chronic hives, prescribed antihistamines from a qualified physician is necessary. Taken in the required dosage as prescribed by your doctor, it will surely help relieve hives.
The bottom line is that you know the allergy causing factor so as to do away with it; even if that means to sacrifice your favourite food. |
