Complications of Allergies |
Complications of AllergiesComplications of allergies are varied and have different effects on various individuals.
Acute sinusitis, chronic sinusitis, hives, asthma, anaphylaxis and nasal polyps are some of the complications. Sinuses are the hollow cavities or dents seen on the sides of the nostrils. Acute sinusitis refers to the inflammation of the sinuses, thereby causing a blockage. Fluid accumulation occurs, thus acting as a hindrance in drainage of the mucus.
Breathing through the nose becomes difficult, resulting in fever, headaches and persistent cough.
Allergy is one of the causative factor for acute sinusitis. Oral corticosteroids are recommended as intervention procedure. Antibiotics are helpful at the early level. This condition lasts for a maximum period of one month. Nasal congestion, sore throat, facial pain, cough, nausea, halitosis, difficulty in nasal breathing are some of the symptoms of acute sinusitis.
Anaphylaxis is a condition accompanied by the release of certain chemicals with the antibodies, thereby causing allergic reactions. It is a life threatening condition, with severe rhinitis and watery eyes. The sudden chemical release decreases the blood pressure and constricts the bronchial tubes. An anaphylactic response is seen right after a bee sting or insect bite. Dizziness, drop in pulse, wheezing, nausea, vomiting, pale skin, diarrhea and hives are the typical symptoms of an anaphylactic reaction.
Chronic sinusitis is an extension of acute sinusitis, in that, the condition, lasts for a longer span of time. It also results in the inflammation of the nasal lining, clogging the nasal cavity, thus affecting the mucus drainage. Triggers can be infection in the upper respiratory tract or uncontagious triggers such as allergies. Anatomical symptoms include a crooked septum or presence of fungi or mold on the sinuses. It establishes itself for around 3 months.
Obstruction of the nasal lining, cough, sore throat, reduced olfactory function, yellowish green discharge and ear pain.
Dermatographia is a disorder, causing redness and inflammation of the skin. The slightest injury or bruise results in raised bumps. It is especially seen in individuals with sensitive skin. General discomfort is seen to occur with hive-like welts.
Symptoms are also initiated by climatic changes and are seen for a few minutes.
Hive or urticaria, is the wheal and flare appearance seen on the skin. It does not cause any harm to the body. Angioedema is the welts in the eye and lips region. Hereditary angioedema is an inherited condition, resulting in severe inflammation of the digestive tract, feet, air passage, genital tract and so on. Effective methods of control for the above mentioned conditions are essential. |
