Food allergy testing determines the kind of allergen seen in the diet.

This is applicable in certain cases. An allergist or immunologist is helpful in the performance of a test and for the interpretation of allergies. Food allergy testing detects the way in which a person reacts to a particular food. The allergen in the food gives rise to certain symptoms on exposure. Few individuals are positive to particular antibodies in certain foods.

Individuals testing positive for many food allergy tests might refrain from any kind of adverse reaction, on exposure to the allergen.

Skin tests and RAST (radio allergo sorbent test) are valid food allergy testing techniques. Placement of allergens on the skin or eyes or nose is done under scientific environment. Patch test is recommended, generally for individuals suffering from contact dermatitis. A formally trained expert allergist is helpful.

Radioallergosorbent testing (RAST) is an expensive skin testing method for allergies. It is confined to the small allergens, such as animal dander and pollen. It is also used to detect and manage the allergies.

Certain tests provide information, based on the reaction size and reveal the fact, as to whether one is allergic at the first place at all. The quantity of allergic antibody in foods is determined.

Food allergies are diagnosed and treated for. The cost of this method and the time taken for the results makes it dissuading for individuals to go in for this method and prefer skin testing methods. Allergens in peanuts are a commonly used test food.

Skin testing to determine the allergen in any foodstuff is an ancient method and is initiated by a prick. A drop of the commercially available allergen is placed by abrading the skin.

This technique is painless, and as it slightly scratches the skin, there is no bleeding.  Food allergy testing is a safe method. Anaphylactic reaction is rare in such cases. Never the less, allergic skin tests are performed in the presence of a physician. Another foodstuff giving rise to an allergic reaction is soy.

Children, who are less than 2 years, refrain from any kind of reactivity, as the skin reactivity is reduced. They are prone to any effect, due to the drawl of blood.

The test for allergies does not develop, after the initiation of the testing procedure. Individuals with a weak mindset develop infection, fainting, additional bleeding and the side effects are greater than allergy testing. A controlled food challenge is also performed. Confirmation of a pre-existing food allergy is done. Allergen is given in the form of a capsule. A part of the allergen containing food is given by hiding the identity.
