ADHD Causes |
ADHD CausesThere are more than one factors that may cause ADHD, the causes are both socio-economical and child rearing methods.
Both the causes are equally responsible for the disorder. Environmental factors too are one of the causes however; these are not the sole cause of ADHD.
Therefore, for this disorder to occur there has to be combination of factors rather than only parents’ treatment of the child being the cause. Studies have revealed that smoking and alcohol during pregnancy can cause ADHD, therefore, it is always advised that both parents refrain from the use of these addictive materials.
Drug use during pregnancy too, can be taken as one of the causes of this disorder, especially if a mother has been abusing drugs during pregnancy, this would lead to the syndrome in the child.
It has also been found that children who are living in old constructions are more prone to this disorder than those who are staying in newly constructed building, though this has nothing to do with the building itself, materials used in building can be the cause.
Off late, scientists have found evidence of harm done by use of lead in paints and therefore, lead has been banned from paints and pipelines. Old constructions still may have these materials in them causing ADHD and other related ailments.
Scientists also put up a theory that those children who sustained some type of brain injury during their infancy or childhood are more likely to suffer from ADHD, however, this theory did not gain much ground since almost 95% of people suffering from ADHD did not have brain injury.
Sugar and food additives too were thought of as one of the causes of this disorder, however, after experimentation was carried out n children by giving them substitutes of sugar and other additives, did not yield any changes in results.
There was no effect on learning activity or behavior of the children.
Studies have also revealed that ADHD can sometimes run in families, therefore, genetics too can be held responsible for the disorder; studies revealed that at least 25% of those suffering from this disorder had some close relative suffering from the disorder. ADHD is not solely due to parent’s treatment to the child, though this can be the reason, it is not the sole cause of the disorder, there are several other factors that contribute towards this disorder. Therefore, parents can now take off burden of the guilt when their child suffers from this disorder. |
