ADHD |
What is ADHD?Basically this disorder occurs due to imbalanced mental health.
ADHD is easily noticeable in children than the adults. The symptoms of ADHD show the sign below the age of seven. In the adults it is less overt. The ADHD is more in percentage in children than the adults.
Around two to three percent of children suffer from this disorder.
This disorder normally starts when a pregnant woman is a smoker, has habit of consuming alcohol or the due to toxic environmental surroundings. The scientific research says that the structural change in brain, smaller brain volume by three to four percent than a normal child, environmental problem and less activity can cause this disorder. Another major cause is heredity.
The ADHD can be classified, broadly in two categories depending up on the symptoms.
These are inattention or impulsive hyperactivity. The symptoms are found significantly in the children having problems with parents, friends & teachers.
A child with ADD will have difficulty every where not at select places.
The symptoms of Inattention are broadly classified as;
Lack in concentration and focusing during study or other activity.
Objectiveness and nervousness to perform in stipulated time.
- Lack of power to sustain the pressure of school or home work.
- Low attention span
- Forgetful nature causes loss of the items
- Dislikes hardships and events where mental effort is required.
Behavior with Impulsive Hyperactivity;
- Because of impulsive and vibrant nature, they get disturbed easily and can leave their places when they are required to be seated.
- Poor power of tolerance makes child fidget or squirm frequently.
- Restlessness in the child makes moves excessively or interrupts others and blurts answers.
- While observing during span of adolescents their change in interest becomes noticeable.
The level of interest will get focused on the activity performed.
As the adults are less overt, we have to study the symptoms of this disorder very carefully.
- The symptoms are lack of concentration and focus so they cannot with stand stress and become hot tempered, inability to change or reform can not complete the tasks.
- Adults might become highly impulsive and unpredictable. This disorder among adults is known as adult attention deficit or attention deficit disorder.
Alertness and precaution is required while adhd, specially the children.
Combination of therapy and medication are the most helpful treatments. Normally attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is treated with medications and psycho stimulant drugs. This helps in relieving the symptoms but can not cure the disorder totally. Sometime non-stimulant medication 'Stratera' is also given.
Treatment with this drug is effective but has very strong side effects, such as Jaundice or flu which are caused by rare liver problems. Close observations are necessary while treating children with 'Stratera'. Children can often get suicidal thoughts during treatment. Ritalin is another such drug.
Counseling therapy by psychiatrists, social group, family, community and friends with skill of behavior treatment with combination of medication is the most successful and effective treatment. |
