Watering eyes or tearing is caused because of excessive production of tears or even at times poor drainage of the tear duct. This may be a result of lack of sleep watching excessive television, working on the computer continuously for long or even excessive exposure to the sun. Some other causes of watering eyes are lashes that may be growing inwards rather than outwards, small specks of dirt that may have entered the eye and so on which may irritate the eye and then result in the formation of tears. In some cases watering eyes is also found in people who suffer from dry eyes which is when the eyes tend to become red and sore thereby resulting in the production of tears. One of the home remedies for watering eyes is to wash one’s eyes thoroughly and carefully with some ice cold water as this will soothe the burning eye membranes and thereby provide relief from tearing.
Another natural treatment for watering eyes is to combine a few drops of diluted honey and rose water and then put a couple of drops of this mixture in one’s eyes. Alternatively, one may also soak some cotton pads in this mixture and place them over one’s eyes and then relax. Watering eyes can be handled by applying a few drops of rose milk or aloe vera as they are known to have soothing properties and will thus effectively handle the burning sensation in the eyes. In some cases the burning sensation and the irritation accompanied with watering eyes is unbearable. In such cases a home remedy would be to place two spoons in the freezer for some time and when they have cooled sufficiently, take them out of the refrigerator and place them on the eyes. This would give you a soothing sensation immediately on account of the cool metal.
Home remedies for watering eyes also include increasing the intake of carrots in one’s daily diet as they are rich in beta carotene which is required for good vision. One may incorporate carrot in their diet either in the form of at least two glasses of carrot juice per day or a salad with carrots. Those who suffer from watering eyes on account of staring at the computer screen for too long should take a few breaks from time to time and look away from the monitor so as to give the eyes a break. However a doctor should be consulted if one is experiencing watering eyes even after trying home remedies.
