stuffy ears

Stuffy ears are a very common occurrence in both adults as well as children. The term “stuffy ears” is mainly used to describe the feeling of discomfort that a person experiences, due to the excessive build up of earwax. People who do not dedicate adequate time to ear care and hygiene often suffer from the problem of stuffy ears. Although a temporary case of stuffy ears would not really be a cause for concern, it could lead to pain in the ears. Several people experience stuffy ears for reasons that have nothing to do with the buildup of earwax. People, who travel by an aircraft, often feel the pressure build up in their ears, which may cause temporary hearing difficulties. At times, stuffy ears could also be related to congestion in the nasal passage, as it is possible for the swollen nose membranes to block the Eustachian tubes in the ears. Therefore, people suffering from sinus or nasal allergies may also face the problem of stuffy ears quite often.

Fortunately, there are several home remedies that can help you deal with the problem of stuffy ears. Given below are some of the most common home remedies that can be used for adults as well as children:
  • Pour a little diluted hydrogen peroxide into one ear, with the help of an eye or an ear dropper, to cure stuffy ears. Leave the hydrogen peroxide in the ear for a few seconds and then allow it to drain out.
  • Heat a little bit of olive oil, till it is lukewarm and pour a drop or two into your ear. The warm oil helps to dissolve the ear wax immediately. Then lean your head sideways to allow the oil out. Follow this up with rinsing your ear using warm water.
  • Mix equal parts of sesame oil and ginger oil juice which is freshly grated and mix them well. Pour some drops of this mixture into the ear and cover it with a ball of cotton, for around 10 - 12 minutes. You could then wash your ears once you are done.
While the remedies for stuffy ears mentioned above are relatively safe, if used correctly, it is best to check with a doctor, before using any of them. More severe cases of stuffy ears can lead to severe pain as well as loss in hearing. Therefore, in case you suffer from constant pain in the ear or experience hearing problems regularly, it is best for you to consult a doctor, especially an ear specialist, without any further delay.
