skin discoloration

The color of human skin is determined by the quantity of a pigment known as melanin that is present in the skin. The quantity or concentration of melanin in the skin is responsible for the color of the skin. A higher concentration of melanin means the skin will appear darker. The color of the skin is an important factor relating to the social condition of an individual. Many people believe that the color of skin is an important factor for an individual. Skin tone is another factor that affects the color of the skin. If the skin is lifeless and dry, it may appear dull and the skin may appear darker than it actually is.

Bright and vibrant skin can improve the appearance and tone of the individual. There are also temporary changes that could occur when an individual is exposed to sunlight. This can cause a temporary increase in pigmentation known as tanning. A tanned individual will return to his or her normal skin tone over a period of time.

Skin discoloration is a condition where patches or the entire skin appears a different color than normal. It is more common to have patches of skin discoloration than have the entire body suffer from skin discoloration. There are many different types of skin discoloration. Skin discoloration may occur when an individual has consumed too much of a particular type of food that can cause skin color changes. Carrots are a good example of this type of food. An individual who consumes too many carrots may suffer from skin discoloration. In this case, the skin will appear to have a tinge of orange in it. Patches of skin discoloration may be caused by exposure of the skin to the sun or to some chemicals such as bleaches.

Many people suffer from spots of hyperpigmentation after being exposed to the sun for long periods of time.
The above mentioned cases of skin discoloration are temporary and are caused by some factor that can be altered to change the condition of the skin. There are also cases where skin discoloration may be permanent. Skin diseases like vitiligo can cause patches of skin to turn pale. Eventually an individual suffering from vitiligo skin discoloration would end up with his or her entire body suffering from the condition. As of now, there is no way to reverse vitiligo.

For temporary skin discoloration, one can use creams and lotions to boost the health of the skin. Regular water consumption can also help prevent dry skin. Localized treatments can be used for patches of discolored skin.
