Scientifically called dysgeusia, a metallic taste in the mouth can range from acidic, bitter, to sour. The condition is not widely talked about, yet it is fairly common. The only symptom is the constant presence of a foul taste in your mouth.
Some of the major causes of a metallic taste in your mouth are dental caries and other afflictions of the teeth, gastritis, heartburn, jaundice, fluctuation of sex hormone levels in women, certain medications like antibiotics, pyrosis, fish poisoning, and lead poisoning, among others.

  • You should consume citrus juices and lemonade to break the metallic taste. These drinks also help in saliva production which in turn fights the metallic taste.  
  • You can also consume foods which are marinated with vinegar to relieve a metallic taste in the mouth and also bad breath. Vinegar helps cleanse your teeth and mouth and helps lessen the metallic taste.
  • Another effective remedy to get rid of a metallic taste in your mouth is to rinse your mouth with a solution of water and salt.
  • You can also rinse your mouth with a solution of water and baking soda. In fact, you can sprinkle baking soda on your toothbrush while brushing your teeth to get rid of the metallic taste.
  • There are several condiments which would help relieve a metallic taste, temporarily. You could chew on condiments like clove and cinnamon to change the taste of your mouth.
Other than these remedies, you must attempt to determine and treat the causes of a metallic taste in the mouth. A visit to a doctor is an integral part of this process. You must consume a balanced diet coupled with regular exercise to avoid developing medical conditions which cause a metallic taste in your mouth.
