kidney pain gas

Kidney pain gas isn’t really a condition, but is often inaccurately described as such. This popular reference ‘kidney pain gas’ may refer to pain in the area of the kidneys that may be indicative of kidney pain, or pain in the region that is actually caused by the buildup of gas. The actual condition of gas being passed with urine is in fact exceedingly rare.

The passage of gas in urine is not so much a condition in itself, as it is a symptom of a condition. Kidney pain gas is not a very common symptom and could indicate abnormalities in the connection or fistula, between the intestines and the urinary tract. The intestines do contain gas normally and some of this may then be allowed to escape through the urinary tract. A fistula may have a variety of causes and could be a product of complication of diverticulitus, it could be caused by certain intestinal inflammation, abscesses or even cancer. A fistula does not necessarily have to develop between the intestines and urinary tract, but in the case of women a fistula between the vagina and bladder could also have the same effect, causing gas to escape into the urine. As pointed out the passage of gas in urine is very rare, even in the presence of these conditions. It is one of the more uncommon symptoms. Even more uncommon is the passage of gas because of the presence of a certain bacteria in the urine. The diagnosis of fistulas can be made with the help of medical tests like sigmoidoscopy, cystoscopy, as well as with imaging tests like ultrasounds or MRIs. If you do suffer from kidney pain and gas passing with urine it could be indicative of fistulas and you would need to consult your doctor. The problem can only be rectified through surgical means.

Kidney pain itself could on the other hand be caused by various kinds of infections or because of injury to the kidneys. For the lay person, identifying and recognizing pain is not very easy, as back or flank pain is often misidentified as kidney pain. It does help to be cautious however as a genuine case of kidney pain could be quite serious. Very often abdominal gas and cramps are confused with kidney pain. Kidney pain actually occurs slightly higher up and just beneath the ribs. If the kidney pain you experience is a dull one sided ache that radiates from the upper back and is accompanied by other symptoms like fever and urinary problems then it is very likely that you are experiencing genuine kidney pain. In such a condition please make sure you seek immediate medical treatment as kidney disorders could turn life threatening if neglected.
