itchy watery eyes

The eyes are very important organs that help us with one of the most useful senses, the sense of sight. The structure of the eye itself is very interesting. The internal part of the eye is made up of a lens and a receptive surface that helps to project and process the image. This image is passed through the optic nerves into the brain. The surface of the eye is always kept slightly moist. This moisture allows the eye lids to smoothly close and open. The moisture also helps to capture dust and dirt particles. During each blink, the eye is wiped of this dirt and dust. The moisture is produced in the tear glands. There are ducts to allow the moisture to flow into the nose. This is why, during the day, one does not even notice the presence of moisture in the eyes. Moisture in the eyes tends to increase when there is an object that needs to be expelled from the eye. This may be a piece of dirt, a small human hair or any foreign object that is irritating the eye. Tears form in order to wash out this foreign object. When this happens, tears will flow out of the eye and down the face rather than only through the nasal ducts. Tears are also a result of crying, which is an emotional response to some extremely happy or sad event.

Itchy watery eyes are a result of some infection in the eye or some foreign particle in the eye. Itchy watery eyes can be extremely irritating as there is a constant desire to blink. Itchy watery eyes can cause the nose to leak which makes the condition even more irritating. Proper vision is also inhibited by itchy watery eyes. There are some temporary causes for watery eyes such as exposure to vapors from onions. Exposure to certain chemicals and gases may also cause itchy watery eyes.

There are some remedies for itchy watery eyes. The first thing to attempt is to use water to wash the eyes. Water may be cool or warm but not hot. One may splash water repeatedly into the affected eye and blink continuously to try and dislodge the foreign particle. One can also ask another person to examine the eyes to see if there is any visible foreign object. The use of cleansing eye drops may also be necessary to help with itchy watery eyes remedies.
