house flies
House flies are probably the most abundant or at least the most common of all insect related problems all across the world. House flies are not just annoying but they are also known to be extremely unhygienic and can be a source of disease and contamination. No matter how hard people would try, flies somehow always seem to make their way indoors despite the screen windows and closed doors. Even the slightest bit of garbage can seem to lure in a swarm of flies.
If house flies are a regular bother at your home it could pose a health hazard. House flies feed and breed quite rapidly and as they tend to inhabit garbage and even feed on feces they tend to pick up and spread a variety of disease causing organisms and contaminate human food and surfaces they come in contact with. House flies have been known to spread diseases like typhoid fever, dysentery, diarrhea, conjunctivitis, tapeworms, hookworms, and pinworms. Most of us tend to rely on methods that are ineffective like patching screen holes, or keeping kitchens clean and maintaining proper trash disposal. Although hygiene and cleanliness are absolutely essential these alone are not adequate.
Natural methods and home remedies for getting rid of house flies are a good alternative to the use of chemical sprays and traps or even flypaper. Most of these home remedies are easy to prepare and inexpensive, with easily available ingredients. Here are some home remedies for house flies that can help you deal with this problem:
- The most important concern that you would probably already be aware of is hygiene. You need to have an efficient garbage disposal system and be particularly careful with organic waste as this tends to attract house flies most easily.
- Mint, which has been highly valued since the days of ancient Greece is known to be quite effective as a repellant for house flies. Simply crush mint leaves and disperse a few sachets of the mint around your house.
- Another effective remedy for house flies requires ingredients like cloves, eucalyptus and bay leaves. Simply wrap them in small squares of cheesecloth and hang them up by your doors or windows.
- Sweet basil also works as a very effective natural repellant for house flies and since organic wastes like food attract flies, you could simply leave an open container of sweet basil along with some clover near these items.
