home remedies for stomach acid

The human digestive system is a complicated system which is designed to process food that is consumed and absorb the nutrients from these foods. The system is also designed to generate waste which is disposed of at a later stage. The stomach is the part of the digestive system where food is processed. Initial processing occurs in the mouth as food is chewed and saliva is added.  This makes it easy for the food to be swallowed. It also adds saliva which aids in digestion. Once in the stomach, food is processed by the use of various stomach acids. These acids break down the food and make it possible for the food to be absorbed easily. Absorption takes place in the intestinal system as the body gradually collects the nutrition from the food and passes it through the blood to various parts of the body for use in energy creation and also for storage.

Acidity is a condition where there is too much stomach acid being produced. It may also refer to a condition where the acid production is adequate, but the stomach lining is damaged and is therefore weak and cannot handle even a normal amount of acidity. Typically, the acidic nature of the stomach allows food to be broken down efficiently. However, there may be a few conditions that cause acidity to increase beyond what is necessary. Excessive acidity leads to several symptoms. Burning in the stomach is the most common symptom along with other common symptoms like gas, bloating, chest pain and heart burn. Excessive acidity can also lead to acid reflux when an individual feels acid in the throat after passing gas.

There are several home remedies for stomach acid. One of the best treatment for stomach acid is to control what is being consumed by the individual. Spicy food should be avoided as much as possible. Heavy meals may also be avoided if there is diarrhea or loose motion associated with the stomach acid problem. There are a whole range of lifestyle changes that can be used as home remedies for stomach acid. Fruits and vegetables should be consumed instead of processed foods. Certain leafy vegetables can help to calm the stomach down to a certain extent. Home remedies for stomach acids would also include water consumption. Increase your water consumption to at least 8-12 glasses a day so that the acidity is partially neutralized. One can also try smaller meals on a more regular basis as this prevents the stomach from being empty and developing a reserve of acid.
