heat bumps
During the summer season, when the temperature rises, it is quite possible for you to see your body covered with heat rashes and heat bumps, after activities like jogging, running and indulging in any sports. These heat bumps usually make an appearance on a person’s arms, legs, chest, back, thighs and underarms. In most cases, heat bumps resemble bug bites. However, these heat bumps are only caused in reaction to the chaffing and heat that the skin goes through. Therefore, even though heat bumps may look unsightly, they are not really a cause for concern. There many simple heat bumps treatment that can be used to deal with this condition:
- One of the simplest and the most basic cure for heat bumps is the use of an ice pack, to cool the skin off. Place a few cubes of ice in a plastic bag and seal the bag, to make sure that the ice does not fall out. Wrap the ice bag in a towel and place them on the area that has been affected by the heat bumps. Allow the ice to stay for at least five to ten minutes, before removing it. Repeat this exercise at intervals of four to six hours. Gradually you should see the redness fade.
- In lieu of ice, you can also use a cold shower to cool our body and your skin off. To maximize the cooling effect, do not towel your body dry and let it air dry on its own. The remedy for heat bumps will also reduce skin irritation.
- After taking a cold shower, apply either some cornmeal, or baking soda or even some oatmeal on to the skin, affected by heat bumps. These ingredients absorb the excess of water on the skin, giving your body and skin immediate relief. You can fill a tub with some warm bath water and add either two tablespoons of plain oatmeal or baking soda to it and allow yourself to soak in the water.
- Another ideal home remedy for heat bumps is Aloe Vera gel, since it also helps reduce the swelling and irritation in the skin. Take a leaf of Aloe Vera and cut it, to squeeze out its natural gel and apply it on the effected skin at least three times a day.
- Choose your clothing carefully, especially while indulging in physical activity during the summer, as chaffing is one of the biggest causes of heat bumps. Make sure that you wear clothes that are loose and comfortable.
